DESPITE being at the centre of controversy on two occasions during yesterday’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Warrington Wolves, Jake Connor has been found to have no case to answer.
The Huddersfield Giants full-back looked to bump Wire’s Josh Thewlis over the advertising boards as he followed a kick, which infuriated the Wolves fans behind the posts and triggered a second-half riot.
Then the melee broke out whenof Warrington and Tui Lolohea of Huddersfield fell to the ground under one other’s grasp.
After reviewing the incident, video referee Ben Thaler informed on-field Liam Moore that none of the instances warranted more action. The Match Review Panel has supported this decision during today’s meeting.
The panel minutes for Connor’s opening push said, “Opponent stops player from getting to the ball.” Player and opponent barely interact as they discuss the advertising hoardings.
A little while later, Connor and Thewlis squared up once more. Thewlis had broken free but was brought down by the Giants player, and Connor knocked Thewlis back to the ground as he tried to get up.
After Connor received a second chance, the panel determined that his punishment was sufficient, noting that Connor had reacted to his opponent by pushing him to the ground. Player is on warning because of an earlier incident. Nothing physical was hurled.
After the semi-final game, three charges were made, all of which were against Wigan Warriors players.
Luke Thompson faces a £250 fine for his Grade B dangerous contact allegation, while Kaide Ellis and Sam Walters have been given one-match bans after being charged with Grade B instances of dangerous contact and head contact, respectively.
