Sam Burgess’s decision as on-loan Warrington Wolves hooker spell reviewed

According to reports received by Love Rugby League, Brad Dwyer appears likely to stay with the Leigh Leopards once his first two-week loan period ends.

Even though Dwyer joined the Leopards on loan from Warrington Wolves, both of Leigh’s Super League appearances have resulted in losses, Dwyer has had a tremendous influence. Monday is the last day of his initial two-week contract, but the Leopards are reportedly keen to hold onto him.

Importantly, parent team Warrington is amenable to the loan being extended, so it’s probable that Dwyer will continue to spend time at the Leigh Sports Village on a weekly basis going forward.

Since joining the team, Dwyer has made an impression on head coach Adrian Lam. Because the hooker was not part of Sam Burgess’s plans before the beginning of the Super League season, the Wolves have given him permission to stay on loan.

“I’m delighted to welcome Brad to our club and would like to thank Sam Burgess and the Warrington club for enabling this move,” Leigh head of rugby Chris Chester said upon Brad’s arrival.

“With Edwin Ipape sustaining an injury in the opening game Brad will strengthen our options in a vital position.

“Brad is a skilful and dynamic player who will easily fit into our systems and this loan spell will benefit all parties. I am looking forward to seeing him in a Leopards jersey.”

And with Ipape still out for several more weeks, Dwyer’s continued presence at Leigh will hand them a boost as they look to get their season up and running with a first win of 2024 this weekend.

Warrington are also expected to make a decision on Joe Bullock’s loan deal at Hull FC in the coming days, too. Matty Russell suffered a torn pec while playing for Hull FC at Catalans, the Warrington Guardian have confirmed, meaning his loan spell now comes to an end.
