Warrington Wolves hit hard as key player leaves club

Gil Dudson has become the latest player to leave Warrington Wolves on loan.

The prop was reportedly close to signing with Salford Red Devils, a Super League rival with whom he played two productive seasons previously in his career, according to The Warrington Guardian.

The Welsh international will play the remaining games of the 2024 season at the Salford Community Stadium, as the deal was now formally revealed.

And as Paul Rowley’s team has only selected a 20-man roster for tomorrow’s match against Wigan Warriors, he may make his debut for the Red Devils right away.

Head coach Sam Burgess has granted him permission to temporarily quit the team, joining fellow prop Joe Bullock, hooker Brad Dwyer, and winger Matty Russell. Russell has struggled to get first-team playing time at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“I’m thrilled to have Gil return to the team,” Red Devils manager Paul Rowley stated.

He is a highly clever football player who provides our middle unit with much-needed reinforcements.

“Having previously collaborated extensively with Gil, I have faith in his abilities and, more significantly, I know he is the kind of person who will blend in and enhance our environment—which we take great pride and protection in.”

Dudson was named in the 21-man squad for each of the three games that followed, but he did not make the matchday 17 in any of them after coming off the bench in the Round One loss at his old side, Catalans.

Before the 2023 season, he joined The Wire from Les Dracs, and he has made a total of 17 appearances.

The Welshman was part of the Salford group before relocating to Perpignan.
