Warrington Wolves are the latest club being linked with a move for Leeds Rhinos back-rower Rhyse Martin. The Papua New Guinea international is a man in demand with his contract coming to an end, with the Rhinos facing a fight to secure their popular back-rower.
Earlier this week, Rugby League Live revealed that Leigh Leopards had tabled a strong financial offer to the back-rower, who is off-contract at the end of the season. But Sky Sports have now reported that the Wire are also in the equation, adding a further suitor for Martin to consider.
Like Leigh, Warrington are looking for a back-row replacement, with Matty Nicholson leaving for Canberra Raiders at the end of the season. Leigh are, of course, losing Kai O’Donnell, who is heading to the North Queensland Cowboys next season.
Both now appear to be vying for Martin’s services. Martin has been a reliable player in the Super League since joining the league in 2019. Nevertheless, Leigh is still regarded as being in charge at this point.
Head coach Rohan Smith of the Rhinos announced on Friday that the team wants him to remain at Headingley past the end of the campaign.
“We’d like Rhyse to stay and Rhyse has been made an offer,” Smith stated. When Ian gets inside the facility, he will figure out that a couple other gamers are in the same situation. We’ll talk about that and decide how to proceed as we go. Yes, we do want Rhyse to stay, though.
