Hornets winger Ken Sema visited Harpenden Memorial Hospital to attend a group for adults with a stammer.
The Swede spoke about his own experiences at the session, which was run by speech and language therapy clinicians who work across West Hertfordshire.
He described his own stammer as a “super power” and said that his speech does not define him as a person or impact the decisions he makes in life.
“Ken’s visit was incredibly inspiring and, judging from some of the comments from the group members afterwards, his words had a huge impact on how they see their stammer,” said Eve Mitterhuber, one of the therapists.
“We had another group session soon afterwards, and they were keen to discuss their reflections from Ken’s visit.
“They said it was encouraging to hear Ken discuss his stammer, and one participant said she now often reminds herself of his advice to not let her stammer get to her too much.
“I would like to thank Ken one more for coming to the group. It is obvious that it has had and will continue to have a long-lasting good effect.”Sema has always supported those who stammer, especially after his post-match chat with watfordfc.com went viral the previous year.
For the 2023–2024 season, he was voted the Hornets’ Professional Footballers’ Association Community Champion.
