Watford’s all-time record signing Ismaila Sarr looks set to leave Marseille after just one season with the French side.
However, he started only 15 of Marseille’s 34 Ligue 1 games, coming off the bench a further eight times to register 23 league outings.
Three goals in the league were scored by Sarr, however they were all scored prior to the October international break.
The Senegal international played in ten Europa League games, starting four of them, and scored in Marseille’s 3-1 victory over Shakhtar in the first round of the elimination phase. Marseille advanced to the semifinals before falling to Atalanta.
A couple of hamstring problems limited Sarr’s club appearances, and he also missed a portion of the season representing his nation at the African Cup of Nations, where Senegal lost to Ivory Coast on penalties in the round of 16.
The 26-year-old is one of nine players Marseille have transfer listed as they look to raise funds to fund the squad overhaul that incoming manager Roberto De Zerbi desires.
The former Brighton boss has arrived in France and quickly rung the changes.
Iliman Ndiaye has already left the club, joining Everton just one year after his big-money arrival from Sheffield United.
Vitinha has also left, making his loan move to Serie A side Genoa permanent, and Pape Gueye has left on a free transfer.
Marseille were reported to be also looking to sell French international full-back Jonathan Clauss this summer as well as Jordan Veretout, Samuel Gigot, Chancel Mbemba and Pau Lopez.
According to a report published in L’Équipe, Sarr has been made available in addition to Geoffrey Kondogbia, Ulisses Garcia, and Azzedine Ounahi.
Additionally, it is likely that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the former striker for Chelsea and Arsenal, will leave the Stade Vélodrome, despite Marseille’s best efforts to hang onto him.
Sarr, who played 131 league and cup games for Watford and scored 34 goals in those games, was on the verge of joining Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 but decided to stay for an additional season. Despite having Joao Pedro and Sarr in the lineup, the Hornets were relegated from the Premier League and failed to make the playoffs.
