Confirmed: Watford make contract decisions on two players ahead of next

Watford have confirmed their retained and released academy list for the 2023-2024 season via a statement on their official website.

The Hornets have made contract choices for two Nigerian players, Hamzat Balogun and Prince Sikiru, ahead of next season.

Hamzat Balogun, a Manchester United youth squad product, will start on a new chapter in his career after Watford dismissed him.

Balogun was on Manchester United’s books for nearly a decade before accepting a scholarship with Watford in August 2021.

He earned his first professional contract with Watford last summer and spent part of the 2023-2024 season on loan at Southern League Division One Central club Bedford Town in quest of first-team opportunities.

He has named Real Madrid’s David Alaba and Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis as role models.

Prince Sikiru has been offered his first professional contract by the Hornets after joining the U18 squad seven years ago.

The highly rated midfielder is versatile, capable of playing in a variety of positions, including left wing and central offensive midfield.

Sikiru cited Ronaldinho and cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent Bukayo Saka as his role models.
