Watford are preparing for a vital summer transfer window as they seek a brighter future at Vicarage Road.
The 2023/24 season was difficult for the Hornets, but following a promising finish under now-permanent manager Tom Cleverley, the hope is that they can recruit successfully in the summer window and climb back up the Championship table.
While fresh acquisitions are crucial, the team must also keep its key players.
Among them is Colombian prospect Asprilla, who is the subject of frequent transfer rumours. However, as the window approaches, Watford’s tough position has been highlighted.
The Watford Observer reports that the club has no plans to cash in on their valuable asset. The Hornets do not need to sell the 20-year-old to raise finances this summer, and Asprilla is content with his current club.
An ‘eye-watering’ bid could give the club pause, but unless fans are willing to raise their bids, it appears that he will remain at Vicarage Road.
Watford are no strangers to selling key assets to top clubs for big fees, so this update on Asprilla’s immediate future will be welcomed with opens arms by supporters.
Only last summer the club cashed in on Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr. A failure to win promotion this time around will have had some concerned that Asprilla would be the next to follow them up the leagues.
Asprilla has long been one of the Hornets’ most promising players, but the 2023/24 season saw him step it up a notch. Starts were more consistent, and his offensive production was the greatest we’d seen from him.
However, it appears that the club is in a strong enough financial position to turn down offers, and with the player content at Vicarage Road, a large offer may be all that is required to separate the club and prospect this summer.
Asprilla scored six goals and eight assists in 47 games, totaling 14 goal contributions.
If he can build on it and achieve even greater levels, Watford may have a star capable of propelling them up the league table next season.
If he carries on his upward trajectory, it might not be long before big clubs are willing to cough up the money the Hornets want for Asprilla. As things stand though, it seems he’ll be staying put.
