Watford to win transfer battle for Sheffield United player amidst stiff competition

Osborn joined the Blades from Nottingham Forest in July 2019, and he has been an important player for the club over the last five years, but with his contract at Bramall Lane expiring this summer, his future is uncertain.

Though talks about a possible new contract are still underway with the club, the 29-year-old, who was a regular for United this season when they were relegated from the Premier League, was first declared as being available on a free transfer in the club’s retained list.

Prior to that decision being overturned, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the Blades were going to extend Osborn’s contract by one year; nonetheless, the team “may yet try to bring him back once they have new owners and more funds”.Osborn might leave United while their takeover is finalized, though, as Nixon disclosed that Derby County and Watford are also interested in the midfield player.

Carlton Palmer predicts Watford to defeat Derby County in Ben Osborn transfer battle

Palmer stated in an exclusive interview with Football League World that Osborn would be better suited at Derby County than at Watford, although he thinks the Hornets may have the advantage because of their capacity to pay higher salaries.

“It looks like Chris Wilder is set to lose out on Ben Osborn, unless a takeover can happen pretty quickly,” Palmer stated.”It is thought that Wilder is eager to extend the left-footed midfield player’s contract by one year, but he is currently limited in his options until the takeover is approved.

“Watford and Derby County, who are eager to sign him, now have access to him as a result.

“You’re observing what would transpire at Derby under Paul Warne; they were promoted by virtue of their excellent football play, and

“One would assume that Derby’s budget will be far smaller than Tom Cleverley’s.

“It’s not someplace you think would fit in better, but Watford will have more money than Derby—that much is certain.

In fact, I believe it would be a wise move for him to join Derby, where there would be some continuity inside the team and the club, as opposed to Watford, where you never know who will be manager from one month to the next.

“My choice for Ben Osborn is Derby, but unfortunately, I think the purse strings of Watford might just push this deal through for them.”
