5 free-agents Watford FC wants to sign now”

Here we have looked at five free agents Watford FC could try and sign now or in the summer.

Watford FC appears destined for another Championship season following a dismal 2023–24 campaign.

Prior to the current season, the Hornets named Valerien Ismael as their new manager, hoping he would be the one to take them back to the Premier League.

But with 11 games remaining, Watford is currently 12 points behind sixth-place Hull City, so it doesn’t appear like it will happen.

Watford has to improve if they want to finish in the top six, thus Ismael may consider using the current free agency market to expand his choices and bolster his team.

If not, Watford will undoubtedly be busy with incomings and outgoings once more, so they might consider that market during the next summer transfer window.

Having said that, Football League World has examined five free agents that Watford FC may attempt to recruit this summer or next year.

Todd Kane, a defender, is the first person Watford would try to recruit as a free agent.

The 30-year-old played for Manchester 62 in Gibraltar after leaving Coventry City in the summer.

While not a particularly flashy addition to Watford, Kane is a capable back-four player who can be relied upon to perform to the best of his abilities when needed.

With nearly 180 games played in the Championship, the full-back has a wealth of experience, and Watford can benefit from his league knowledge both on and off the pitch.

In addition, the Hornets have a lot of choices at centre back, but a lot of them are at full back, so his acquisition would benefit the team by giving the manager an extra option in case of injuries or bans.

Josh Onomah

Josh Onomah is still without a club, which probably surprises a lot of people considering how impressive he was in the Championship with Preston and Fulham most recently.

The 26-year-old has a great deal of experience leaving the league, having played a key role in Fulham’s promotions to the Premier League in both the 2019–20 and 2021–22 seasons.

The Hornets don’t have many options in the middle of the park, so Onomah may be a great acquisition. The midfielder has demonstrated his abilities both on and off the ball.

Onomah is a competent player at this level because of his technical abilities, which allows him to play both forward and defensively.

Tariqe Fosu

Tariqe Fosu left Brentford during the summer transfer window, although he is still without a football club.

Throughout his career, the 28-year-old has played for several teams; Brentford is the most recent. However, he spent the majority of his time on loan with Championship clubs, thus the transfer to the London team never really worked out.

With strong showings in the Championship and League One, Fosu has established himself as a talented player in the EFL. Fosu has demonstrated his versatility, which would help him on a club led by Valerien Ismael, who values having players with a range of skills.

Helder Costa

As previously said, the Hornets may be on the verge of losing Asprilla in the summer, thus the team will be searching for possible successors.

Helder Costa is one player who would be a good addition on a free transfer, as he is currently looking for a new team after departing Leeds United earlier in the season.

Watford has had trouble scoring goals since they haven’t produced enough opportunities or scored as many goals as they would have liked. Costa’s arrival could help with that issue in part since he has shown himself to be a superb winger in this division in the past.

The 30-year-old still has a lot to offer and has made significant contributions to the second tier in terms of goals and assists. In addition, he might be a great choice to take Asprilla’s spot and relieve some of the load on the attackers the team already has on their roster.

Connor Wickham

Watford supporters may find this surprising, but as previously noted, the team has had difficulty scoring goals this season, and with only a few strikers on the roster, they might use some new competition.

Thus, it might not be a bad idea for the Hornets to add Connor Wickham now or in the summer. The forward played for Cardiff City for the second half of the previous campaign. Despite his goal-scoring struggles, Watford may find him to be a valuable signing as he is the kind of striker that Ismael is likely to enjoy.

At the top of the pitch, Wickham can be a focal point, but he can also be a player who is at ease with the ball at
