HIGHLIGHTS
- Watford’s season ticket prices are in the top ten most expensive in the Championship, but not the most expensive.
- At home, Watford has had an equal chance of winning, drawing, or losing this season.
- In terms of value for money, Watford FC and Vicarage Road are fairly average compared to other clubs in the Championship.
The summer saw a number of players leave, including two big names in Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr, so before the season even started, expectations were lower at Vicarage Road.
Even so, the Hornets have been a respectable team under Valerien Ismael and are arguably outsiders in the race for a Championship play-off spot this season, despite their lack of activity during the January transfer window.
But for now, we are just going to talk about Vicarage Road and matchday life in WD18.
Having said that, we’ve examined how Watford’s ticket costs compare to those of the other Championship teams as well as the Hornets’ home record thus far this year.
We will then assess whether Watford fans receive good value at their home stadium.
Watford FC ticket prices
Similar to numerous other clubs, Watford charges varying prices for individual match tickets on different matchdays based on the category to which they are allocated.
For the purposes of this article, we shall therefore concentrate on the cost of the club’s season tickets and their relative value to those of other teams in the division.
The lowest adult season ticket available to a new season ticket holder at Vicarage Road for the 2023–2024 campaign was £438 in the Lower Graham Taylor Stand and Rookery Stand.
Nonetheless, the team provided a minor discount and even better value for money for devoted fans who renewed their season tickets early, with that same price becoming £402 for those supporters.
According to statista.com, a season ticket at Vicarage Road is among the ten most costly in the division even with this discount.
In actuality, their analysis indicates that Watford’s lowest season ticket is the eighth most costly in the Championship this year.
As per statista.com, Middlesbrough charges £590 for their cheapest season ticket, making it the most expensive ‘cheapest’ ticket in the division.
Conversely, the ‘cheapest’ Championship season ticket, as reported by statista.com, was £242 at Queens Park Rangers.
In light of the aforementioned, Watford does not seem to provide particularly good value in relation to the other teams in the division. They are still far from the highest prices in the Championship, though.
Watford FC’s 2023/24 home form
Now that the cost of Watford’s tickets has been determined, let’s examine the Hornets’ home record and the number of victories that supporters who have paid that amount have witnessed this season.
At the time of writing, Watford’s home record in the Championship stands at the following: 15 matches played, five wins, five draws and five defeats.
This means that, thus far in this campaign, there has been an equal chance for supporters who show up at Vicarage Road to witness a win, draw, or loss.
Watford is a mediocre team when compared to the Hornets’ home performance against the other teams in the division.
When it comes to home games alone, Watford is ranked 15th in the Championship by soccerstats.com.
In light of everything mentioned above, Watford FC and Vicarage Road don’t seem to offer the best or worst value for the money.
In WD18, season tickets are neither the most expensive nor the cheapest in the division, and the Hornets have neither an excellent nor a bad home record.
Therefore, one could argue that Watford FC and Vicarage Road are mediocre this season in terms of value for money.
