Watford star who rejected overseas move now full of regrets

Watford kept defender Pollock at Vicarage Road last summer following another impressive loan away. After a spell with Cheltenham Town, they sent him to Scotland with Aberdeen, where he became a popular figure.

After his success above the border, the 22-year-old would have hoped to continue with the Hornets. He requested to depart in January in order to try his luck at more minutes elsewhere, but his time in the Championship game has been restricted.

Although Aberdeen, a former loan club, was interested, a transfer eventually fell through. Pollock has appeared in three games since the window closed and has been used as a substitute five times.

A new development in the story of his January transfer has surfaced.

According to The Athletic, Gino Pozzo and Pollock’s representative Mogi Bayat suggested moving to Charleroi. Despite his desire for playing time, the Watford defender turned down that possible transfer in favour of a domestic move that, regrettably, would never happen.

Following the weekend’s dismissal of previous occupant Valerien Ismael, the 34-year-old makes the unexpected decision to take on his first senior management position.

It’s an excellent chance for players like Pollock who aren’t in the starting lineup to start over and establish a positive impression with the new team hierarchy. It will be interesting to see how Cleverley lineups his team during their weekend matchup against Birmingham City.

With a position of 14 in the Championship standings, Watford appears well-positioned to achieve another mid-table result.
