A 16-year-old girl was killed and five other teenagers were seriously injured in a car crash Monday afternoon in Waxahachie, officials said.
The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Shoreside Trail, not far from State Highway 77, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported. The girl was driving a 2007 Honda Accord and didn’t turn before a curve, leading the car off the left side of the road and into a culvert.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC5 reported. Four passengers from Waxahachie — two girls, ages 16 and 17, and two boys, age 15 and 16, and a 17-year-old boy from Garland were taken to hospitals in Dallas and Waxahachie, according to the TV station.
The teenagers’ names have not been released.
Several of them were Waxahachie ISD students, according to a written statement late Monday from the school system. The district declined to release additional information.
“We ask that you please join the entire Waxahachie ISD family in praying for the young people involved in the accident, as well as their families, friends, and teachers,” the district said.
