Kyle Bartley, a defender for West Brom, will get a scan after suffering a shoulder injury against Hull City, according to Carlos Corberan.
On Saturday, November 4, the Baggies defeated The Hawthorns 3-1. Goals from Jed Wallace, Semi Ajayi, and Matthew Phillips ensured that Corberan’s team, presently ranked fifth in the Championship, would still be in the running for the play-off spots.
Although several brilliant offensive plays took front stage, Bartley hobbled off the field early in the second half after suffering a hit to his shoulder. Corberan said that Bartley will get a scan in the upcoming days.
He stated, “It was his shoulder, the same problem he had in the first half,” as reported by the Express & Star on November 4. He wanted to continue participating, so we weren’t sure what to do, but we thought there was a good chance he might get hurt if he continued.
“At this point, I’m not sure how serious his injuries are or how long they might last. (Won’t get scanned) tonight; hopefully, he’ll get one tomorrow or the day following, at which point we’ll learn more.
Bartley’s return to the starting lineup has coincided with West Brom’s good defensive play thus far this season, so it would be tragic for both him and Corberan if he were to miss a significant amount of time due to injury.
The 32-year-old was back to his aggressive best at The Hawthorns on Saturday, but as the teams reconvened for the second period, it was clear that he would not be able to continue playing. He was clearly uncomfortable.
Albion fans may at least relax knowing that Semi Ajayi has returned to first-team action against Hull to guarantee they have backup between now and the November international break, even though losing Bartley would be a severe blow for any significant amount of time.
Bartley will have plenty of time to heal from his knock because Corberan’s team only has one game in the next twenty-one days—they play at Southampton on Saturday, November 11—and if he is unable to play against the Saints, he should be well enough to play against Ipswich on November 25.
