Sad news: Corberan offers early update on heavy blow to key West Brom player

After leaving the game against QPR, defender appears to have sustained a “serious injury,” according to West Brom manager Carlos Corberan.

QPR was defeated 2-0 by West Brom on Tuesday night. Grady Diangana and Brandon Thomas-Asante both scored goals to seal the win for Corberan’s team, which temporarily moved them up to fifth position in the Championship standings.

The Baggies did not, however, win the game easily.

center-back Kipre was substituted late in the game, and his injury has since raised questions about how serious it is. Late in the air, the Ivorian contestant dropped down before giving way.

Corberan has now provided an early update on the matter during an interview with the Express and Star. The West Brom manager stated that Kipre appears to have sustained a “serious injury” to his knee, and that the early indicators are not promising. Says he:

“Kipre appears to have suffered a serious injury; on Wednesday, we’ll learn more.”

“I’m not sure if it will take weeks or months. The more detrimental aspect of this game is that we must determine how much we stand to lose by losing another participant.

Another issue
At the moment, West Brom is struggling mightily with injuries. Kipre’s latest issue just makes Corberan’s issues worse, as his team is rapidly getting smaller in the midst of this hectic stretch of games.

Kipre has been a dependable backup at the back since coming back from his Cardiff City loan the previous season. He has participated in 12 Championship games and scored one goal throughout that time.

You have to assume that Caleb Taylor will join Kyle Bartley and Erik Pieters in the back three, given Semi Ajayi’s struggles as well. Then, West Brom could have to look inside the academy for bench possibilities.

This weekend’s matchup against Coventry City is anticipated, and it will be intriguing to watch how the team prepares for that difficult road match.
