USA links West Brom takeover detailed than ever before

West Brom are now closer to a takeover than ever before under Guochuan Lai, with parties with links to the USA interested, according to Tom Collomosse

The journalist for The Daily Mail revealed on Wednesday, November 15, that the Baggies are closer to acquiring the club than they have ever been under Lai’s leadership. The purchase price, which includes repaying the MSD debt, is estimated to be over £60 million.

There are three groups who are interested in buying the Baggies, and each of them has “strong links” to the US. There had been earlier reports [Daily Mail, September 20] that no prospective new owners from the Middle East were interested.

It appears that a takeover proposal is moving forward as planned because managing director Mark Miles had previously stated that non-disclosure agreements were in place, and sports attorney David Hinchcliffe was seen standing next to Lai at the Baggies’ match against Hull City [The Liquidator Podcast, November 5].

Advancements being made

West Brom’s rule under Lai looks to be finally coming to an end after a few years of decline in the Championship, as the Baggies are expected to be taken over by new owners in the coming months.

Obviously, nobody will be putting out the bunting until a deal is confirmed, after all this remains the world of football where deals fall through at the 11th hour repeatedly even after contracts are drawn up and deals are agreed upon. Until a takeover is confirmed, no supporters will want to get their hopes to high.

As Albion supporters get to know their team’s newest custodian, it is only great that more and more details regarding the agreement are gradually coming to light. It is hoped that the person ready to pay the substantial sum of £60 million would continue to support the club.

It would be fantastic if a deal could be reached in the upcoming weeks as the January transfer window draws near, giving Carlos Corberan the support he needs to make the necessary investments and bolster his team in order to challenge for the top six spots and the play-offs.

With just a few high-caliber additions, this West Brom team may go from being a pretender for promotion to a real playoff contender.
