Cleary was benched for the Championship match against Coventry, but he might not have many opportunities going forward due to Josh Maja’s comeback and eventually Daryl Dike.
“If you have the need, then you are going to use them,” Corberan said in an interview with the Express & Star on November 20. Each player at the academy must be deserving of the chance.
“He needs to regain his level of performance as his persistent injury necessitates time for healing and preparation. We got him involved on the bench at Coventry.
“We have only once contemplated that he could be sitting on the bench with the first team due to his superiority over other players.”
These remarks imply that Cleary still has a ways to go before making an impact on the first team, particularly after other players in his position return to fitness, and that going out on loan might be the best course of action.
Before making his bench debut against Coventry, the 19-year-old had a hamstring injury that sidelined him for six months. A loan transfer elsewhere could provide him the chance to regain his form and fitness.
After making his senior debut in August 2022, former Baggies striker Kevin Campbell told West Brom News on June 7 that he doesn’t think Cleary is ready to become a star for the team and that a loan deal would fit him better.
Before his recent injury stopped his growth and game time, Cleary showed that he may be a future star at The Hawthorns. From his 12 U21 games last season, he scored 16 goals and provided three assists.
Despite not playing any minutes against Coventry, he is still highly regarded by the team, as evidenced by his engagement. However, considering the level of competition, if players recover fully, a January loan deal would be the best choice.
A striker for West Brom might only have one more game left to salvage his career.
