West Brom’s dream international break breakthrough

Clean up on the injury front

Albion have battled on admirably this season in the face of, at times, an almost farcical injury situation. Through the fault of nobody, they’ve suffered in-game set-backs to John Swift and Josh Maja, while contending with the losses of Adam Reach and Daryl Dike. Then they’ve lost Jeremy Sarmiento and Semi Ajayi at various points, and received the serious Cedric Kipre scare, too.

Albion are slowly turning the tables on the treatment room. Once over-crowded, the squad on a match-day is beginning to look healthier, bulkier when it comes to senior players, and importantly those who have been relied on in recent weeks have stepped up, so that when Swift and Maja rejoin training this break and eventually return to the squad, they’ll complement the existing performers.

According to the plan, Maja and Swift will return to full training in the second week of this break, after recovering from their respective calf and ankle ailments. What advantages they’ll also have upon their return. When Dike and Reach are, hopefully, just a few weeks away rather than months, Corberan won’t have to start benching players from a 20-man roster.

Safe returns of internationals

As previously said, the Baggies’ injury situation is getting better. They have a tonne of fixtures in December and January, so they’ll need as many people as they can to help them succeed in their campaign. It’s by no means the largest squad in the division, which highlights the necessity for them to have crucial players available for as long as feasible.

They hope that when they return next week, having represented their countries, they do so in excellent health and prepared to get back to work right away—especially Diangana, who Corberan has been masterfully getting more than a tune out of lately. What they really could do without is the loss of Diangana or Ajayi to anything during their absence.

Molumby’s safe and injury-free return is also crucial. The Irishman established himself as a vital midfield player last season, so even though he hasn’t played as much as he would have liked these last few months, with the schedule as full as it is, he will inevitably be used in the upcoming weeks. Molumby, Ajayi, Pipa, and the other individuals who are presently outside the XI need to be prepared and available.
