After Josh Maja’s success, Carlos Corberan ought to make a daring choice regarding Akeel Higgins of the West Brom academy.

Josh Maja, a striker for West Brom, is anticipated to be sidelined for at least two months, thus Carlos Corberan may have to look to club youth sensation Akeel Higgins for attacking inspiration going forward.

Tuesday, The Baggies provided confirmation.

Maja’s probably absence from play until after the international break in November has now been confirmed by West Brom, leaving Corberan with a significantly diminished attacking arsenal.

West Brom only have Brandon Thomas-Asante as their specialized striker with the likes of Jed Wallace, Jeremy Sarmiento, Grady Diangana, and Matt Phillips as his current available wide options. Daryl Dike isn’t anticipated to return from his protracted injury layoff until at least December.’

The Spaniard will still feel, though, that he is absolutely lacking in attacking quality and cutting edge, and recent results undoubtedly reflect this.

The Baggies have lost their previous five Championship games, including their most recent defeat against Middlesbrough on August 26. They have also failed to score in two of their last three games, leaving them in 13th place with 10 points out of a possible 24.

The Baggies have lost their previous five Championship games, including their most recent defeat against Middlesbrough on August 26. They have also failed to score in two of their last three games, leaving them in 13th place with 10 points out of a possible 24.

While many of their opponents for promotion, including recently promoted Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Leicester City, and Sunderland, are having little trouble scoring goals and picking up victories, Corberan is left in charge of an offense that is in desperate need of some much-needed vigor and energy.

Sarmiento and Diangana are both excellent choices, but the latter is still adjusting to his new environment and has recently returned from an injury, which may compel Corberan to take a hazardous chance on Akeel Higgins, a brilliant young academy product.

Players that have followed a similar trajectory have gone on to become World beaters at the Premier League level, and the Championship continues to be the ideal platform around Europe for developing young talents to hone their art.

To ensure a sustainable and healthy future at The Hawthorns, the Spaniard should be promoting from within the academy, and Higgins is one prospect he should be keeping an eye on.

The diminutive but cunning striker typically plays on the sides but has shown success playing as the No. 10 behind the forward. Higgins has the potential to become an instant success in the Championship because he plays with energy, vibrancy, and youthful exuberance, and he demonstrates outstanding footwork in confined spaces in the final third.

He has scored goals for Richard Beale’s U21s in games in the U18 Premier League, PL2, Premier League, and Birmingham Senior Cup during the 2022–23 season.

The majority of Akeel’s goal-related contributions during his second year of scholarship came from the PL2 team, where he scored double figures in four different competitions (six goals, five assists) in addition to three goals for the U18s.
