The injury that kept West Brom forward Brandon Thomas-Asante out of the match against Plymouth Argyle has been detailed by Steve Hermon.
Due to a hamstring problem, Thomas-Asante was left off of the matchday roster for Tuesday’s 3-0 victory at Home Park (20 February).
After being a regular under Carlos Corberan, this is just the third Championship game the 25-year-old has missed for West Brom this season.
“I’m told that the Thomas-Asante injury is not a serious one,” Hermon stated in a statement on BBC WM on February 20 at 7:41 p.m. Although a timeframe isn’t specified, it won’t take long.
In the team’s most recent 2-0 loss against Southampton, Thomas-Asante was substituted off at the half, marking his sixth straight game without a goal.
Even so, he leads the squad in league goals scored thus far this season with nine, therefore his absence on the South Coast from Thomas-Asante was felt to be a setback.
Nevertheless, Albion found their game and performed a masterpiece at Home Park in the second half following a very uneventful first half.
Mikey Johnstone doubled the score with an incredible effort after Cedric Kipre opened the score with a close-range shot.
Tom Fellows, a fellow attacker, completed the scoring with a third tap-in to round off a convincing victory.
In lieu of Thomas-Asante, Andi Weimann had a few good opportunities but was unable to convert; hence, it’s possible that he will start the following game.
This performance gives hope that others will step up if Thomas-Asante is out for an extended period of time, even if it’s just a game or two.
It appears more likely than not that the Baggies will make the playoffs, thus it is imperative that BTA be healthy and ready to go at the end of the season.
