Set to become chairman as takeover agreed for £60m*

The Serie A team Bologna’s minority stakeholder Shilen Patel is expected to be named the new chairman of West Brom; An alleged £60 million agreement has been approved by the EFL; Watch Southampton vs. West Brom tonight on Sky Sports Football starting at 7:30 p.m.; kickoff at 8 p.m.

The agreement between Florida-based businessman Shilen Patel and his father to take over West Brom is expected to be finalised the following week.

The EFL has approved the purchase of the Championship club, which is estimated to be worth £60 million, in order to get Guochuan Lai’s 87.8% majority interest.

West Brom released the following statement: “Bilkul Football WBA, LLC, a business ultimately owned by Florida-based businessman Shilen Patel and his father Dr. Kiran C. Patel, has agreed to purchase an 87.8% shareholding in West Bromwich Albion Group Limited, the West Bromwich Albion Football Club’s parent company.

“The takeover has been approved by the EFL, with exchange and completion to take place next week.”
“I am thrilled and grateful to have reached an agreement to become the custodian of West Bromwich Albion Football Club,” he stated in a statement.

“The club stands out even in this, the birthplace of football, thanks to its remarkable history, support, and potential.
It is expected that Shilen Patel, who has held a minority stake in Bologna, a Serie A team, since 2014, will be chosen the new chairman of the Baggies.

“My objective is to assist the team in realising a future deserving of its legacy as a cutting-edge elite team that summons the pride and fervour that have typified the Albion for many years.

“I am excited to get started at The Hawthorns and look forward to the deal completing next week.”

With a background spanning technology, healthcare, sports, real estate, finance, and food and beverage, Patel is anticipated to watch Friday night’s home game versus Southampton, which is now in third place, live on Sky Sports.

Fifth in the Championship standings is West Brom.
