When it came to the decision that means he will be missing another important player for West Ham’s trip to Sheffield United on Sunday, David Moyes acknowledged he may be left with few complaints.
The rematch deprived Moyes the chance to rest his players during the holiday break before facing the Blades at Bramall Lane, adding to his frustration after his team’s failure to defeat Bristol City in the FA Cup third round.
both missed Tuesday night’s replay against the Robins; the latter will undoubtedly not play against United on Sunday due to his mounting injury problems, while Moyes is concerned about Bowen’s health.
In addition to Mohammed Kudus’s injury, Michail Antonio is now hurt. This makes Said Benrahma’s red card and suspension—which came during a replay in which West Ham lost 1-0 to City and was eliminated from the FA Cup—even more frustrating.
Although he wasn’t entirely satisfied with several of the home team’s tackles, most notably Joe Williams’ strong challenge that resulted in Benrahma kicking out at his opponent and getting sent off, Moyes accepted the referee’s decision.
“After looking at it, I don’t believe there is anything to complain about. His response wasn’t appropriate, in my opinion. “It was a farewell,” acknowledged Moyes. “About the tackle on him, I wasn’t sure. That could have been dubious. It seemed like a really difficult task at the time of the game.
“I don’t think the referee responded to the first challenge quickly enough, which gave room for something else to occur. Additionally, there was one on Danny Ings that wasn’t the greatest.
After defeating Gillingham in the FA Cup third round last weekend, Sheffield United has been granted an extended break. This has allowed them to recuperate and work on the training pitch, something that returning manager Chris Wilder has not had much time for due to his hectic schedule since taking over.
As the Hammers turn their attention to the Blades, defender Richard Cresswell hopes he and his teammates can recover from their loss to Bristol City.
“We know we weren’t good enough tonight, and it’s up to us to react now,” Cresswell remarked, giving Bristol City credit. We’re all devastated to be eliminated because, like in every competition we participate in, we wanted to win the FA Cup and advance as far as possible.
“We’re going to return to the training area and try our best to be prepared for Sunday at this point. We are back in the Premier League for another crucial match, and maybe we can win it.
