Frank McAvennie, a former striker for West Ham United, is a welcome addition to our exclusive writer lineup. He will provide his opinions on the most talked-about topics at the London Stadium every week.
According to Frank McAvennie, David Moyes may lose out on his aspirations for West Ham United to compete in both domestic and European competitions as a result of the team’s recent injury blows.
Jarrod Bowen is now anticipated to miss at least a month of action following an injury sustained during the 1-1 draw with Bristol City on January 7 at the London Stadium, according to Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas (9 January).
Bowen, who scored his 14th goal in all competitions on Sunday, had to be assisted off the field by two members of the physio team, having injured his left ankle.
The Englishman now joins Michail Antonio who will be out for six weeks and Lucas Paqueta who also faces almost a month on the sidelines (The Guardian, 9 January).
“Yeah, this is worrying, I’m very worried,” McAvennie stated in an interview with West Ham Zone. It’s hardly ideal for Moyes to lose both Bowen and Paqueta in the same game, and I can assure you that he will be furious right now.
“They could lose their season-long goals if they lose two of their best players at the same time, so it’s unfortunate and forces Moyes’ hand in the transfer window because they need to make moves now.”
After this development at the London Stadium, Moyes will find himself in a difficult situation as three of his most important and influential attackers are now sidelined.
Bowen is out for a month, and Paqueta and Antonio are now out for six weeks means Moyes is in a serious injury crisis at West Ham United and this can only mean one thing: David Sullivan must now let the cash fly to support Moyes this month with fresh arrivals.
Since Mohammed Kudus is currently gone with Ghana for the AFCON, Paqueta and Bowen have been the only noteworthy performers for the Irons. It is currently quite unclear exactly who Moyes would turn to to replace those three players.
Throughout the entire campaign, Danny Ings, Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals, and Maxwel Cornet have all been on the outside looking in, and when given the chance, they have all pretended to be dishonest, suggesting that they aren’t the answers just yet.
With their amazing table standing and progress in the Europa League, West Ham United has been outstanding this season. However, this new information puts Moyes in a dangerous scenario and has the potential to seriously undermine their goals.
It will be intriguing to observe Moyes’ response going forward.
In other West Ham news, new pictures from Rush Green have undoubtedly stoked rumours of a potential departure for one Hammers star.
