Interested in a Steven Bergwijn trade, west Ham united

This month, Steven Bergwijn, the 26-year-old captain of Ajax, is a target for West Ham United.

The Sun reports that West Ham United wants to add to their attack during the current transfer window, and they have Steven Bergwijn in their sights. After his time in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur failed to materialise, the Hammers are prepared to extend an invitation to him to return to England.

In the summer of 2015, Bergwijn joined PSV Eindhoven’s first team after rising through the ranks. Before joining the Spurs in the winter of 2020, he continued to grow over the next five years. After his 18-month stay at Tottenham did not go as planned, he left with Ajax and returned to the Netherlands.

Since coming back, he has been playing at an incredible level, leading the club as captain right now. He has made 20 appearances this season and has contributed 11 goals. West Ham United is interested in adding him to their roster because of his strong play.

The Hammers are in desperate need of additional offensive punch up top with Mohammed Kudus travelling with Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations and Lucas Paqueta sidelined. They have already made initial contact with the player’s representation and are hoping to recruit the former Tottenham winger.

Even though they’ve made some progress, much more work needs to be done before a transfer can happen. The Hammers had made big summertime expenditures. Despite having signed four players for £117.5 million, they may have sold Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million. Consequently, they must approve a few exits prior to pursuing the 26-year-old.

The 26-year-old Dutch international still has more than three years left on his contract with Ajax, and considering how important he is to the group, it seems unlikely that they will let him go easily. Regardless of a buy option or an obligation, they are not likely to approve any lending arrangement. West Ham must thus raise a sizable sum of money before attempting to acquire Bergwijn’s services.
