Rafa Benitez verdict emerges as David Moyes sack decision mooted at West Ham United

Paul Brown reports that if David Moyes leaves, managers like Rafa Benitez and Marcelo Bielsa, who are highly regarded by the West Ham owners, are probably out of the running.

On November 7, the former Daily Star reporter informed GiveMeSport that the appointment of Tim Steidten as new technical director is “more likely” to result in the hiring of a “up and coming” manager in the event that the Scot is let go.

He has, however, indicated that nothing is likely to be “imminent” in terms of a decision about Moyes and that more information will become available in the “coming weeks” as the transfer window draws near.

It’s quite difficult to tell because the proprietors there had their preferences, according to Brown. They were huge fans of Marcelo Bielsa and Rafa Benitez before Moyes took over, but I have a feeling that now that Tim Steidten is in place, he would not be as keen to bring in those managers if the team were to make a change.

Thus, I believe that if a change is on the way, West Ham will try to pursue a younger, more promising manager. However, I don’t believe one is coming soon.

“I believe that once the club starts planning transfers and discussing the current manager’s contract with him closer to Christmas, things will start to become more apparent. Thus, I believe we’ll learn a bit more.

A someone like as Benitez is unlikely to inspire much enthusiasm among West Ham supporters, and although Bielsa may be more interesting, he is likely to be unavailable after securing the position of Uruguayan manager.

Given that Moyes’ criticism usually centres on his traditional values and restricted approach to the game, Steidten’s desire for a change would likely be seen positively.

Going with a less tried choice carries a risk, of course, but if the German finds the right man, there may be more potential benefit.

It is probable that the club, having persevered with Moyes throughout the summer but not extended his contract until now, may be keen to let him finish out his present agreement before moving on from him.

However, things might change if Premier League results don’t improve, particularly since mid-table mediocrity or worse increases the likelihood that top players will be open to accepting approaches from other teams.

If there’s a chance to make a big upgrade at the top, the Irons would definitely prefer to avoid a repetition of the Declan Rice issue. Jarrod Bowen is being linked to Liverpool, while Lucas Paqueta nearly left for Manchester City over the summer.
