Brenden Santi, a former forward for the Wests Tigers and an Italian international player, has secured a new contract for the 2025 season, allowing him to extend his rugby league career.
Santi will return to the York Knights for the upcoming season, competing in the Betfred Championship, which is recognized as the second tier of the English Super League.
Having represented Italy in the last three Rugby League World Cups, Santi is also a former captain of the Australian Schoolboys and has played 11 matches for the Wests Tigers between 2014 and 2015.
Additionally, he was part of the junior systems of the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Parramatta Eels in 2014, although he did not make any first-grade appearances for either club.
His professional journey includes playing for the Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup, as well as stints with Toulouse Olympique in France, Newcastle Thunder, and the Keighley Cougars.
York coach Mark Applegarth expressed his satisfaction with Santi’s decision to return, stating, “I thought he was an excellent member of the pack last year. He offered not only a high level of rugby but some great leadership, and he’ll be another important voice for some of the younger members of the squad.”
He further added, “I love everything he’s about. He plays very tough and puts his body on the line every time he crosses that whitewash, so I’m delighted he’s on board for 2025.”
