Lakeland resident killed in crash

WFLA, Lakeland, Fla. – The collision on Highway 98 North in Lakeland on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a 58-year-old local.

A Toyota Corolla and a semi-truck crashed at the intersection of Old Soldier Road and Highway 98 North in Lakeland at approximately 12:40 p.m.

After responding to the site, deputies and fire rescue closed the road’s northbound and southbound lanes for around five hours.

The lorry was transporting a trailer of metal pipes from the adjacent construction site along the section of US-98, according to the investigation.

As the semi went to make a left turn onto US-98 from Old Soldier Road, the driver of the Toyota struck the back of the semi.

The 58-year-old was killed in the crash. Officials have not released the driver’s name.

The crash remains under investigation.
