Sunderland makes New mouth watering offer for Wigan Athletic star.

Sunderland are interested in Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, reports Alan Nixon.

At the end of this season, Sunderland is eager to entice the stopper up to the Championship.

Tickle, 22, has made the number one spot his own at the DW Stadium over recent times and has caught the eye in League One.

According to reporter Nixon on his Patreon page, the Black Cats are keen on snapping him up this summer.

Tickle might be a long-term solution for Sunderland in goal.

The Three Lions’ Under-21 player, an England youth international, is predicted to have a successful career in the game.

Since his contract with Wigan expires in June 2026, the club is not obligated to sell him during the upcoming transfer window unless they receive an irresistible offer. But after such an impressive campaign, higher up the football pyramid will undoubtedly take an interest.

This season, Tickle has made 46 appearances for Shaun Maloney’s team across all competitions, recording 16 clean sheets.

Before being released, he was registered with the Latics academy from 2012 to 2018. After that, the goalie returned to play in the Cheshire Football League for Pilkington.

Before making his debut in the first team, Tickle had loan stints in non-league football at Warrington Rylands and Nantwich Town to gain more experience.

The Warrington-born man is reportedly being linked to Sunderland, and it appears Wigan will have to fight to hold him.

In an attempt to cap off the season with a victory under Mike Dodds, the Black Cats defeated Cardiff City 2-0 on the road on Friday. They will now take on Blackburn Rovers at home tomorrow.
