Wigan Athletic Sign £100m Deal

Latest Preston North End transfer news which involves two of their former players.

Anthony Gordon, a former Preston North End loan player, is being linked to a spectacular £100 million return to Merseyside.

According to The Daily Express, Gordon is wanted by Liverpool and would cost them an estimated £100 million. Gordon only moved to Newcastle United from Everton in August 2023 for an alleged £45 million. Now, in the post-Jurgen Klopp era, the Reds are reportedly interested in recruiting Gordon.
With ten goals and ten assists in the Premier League this season, Gordon has been a standout performer for the Magpies. He made his England national team debut in March, and he is currently vying for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championship.

Perhaps not many people anticipated that Gordon, who was on loan at Deepdale, would make a big-money move to Anfield. With 11 appearances in the 2020–21 season, he clearly had some promise. However, after that loan period, he played in the Champions League and is currently rumoured to be among the Premier League’s third-most expensive signings ever.

In other news, ex-PNE defender Joe Rafferty has been linked to Wigan Athletic as a potential next club. After Portsmouth won League One, the right-back was let go, a decision that the player disagreed with.

“I kind of feel a bit hard done to, I feel like I deserve to be there next season and in the Championship, but that’s life sometimes,” he stated in an interview with our partners at The News.

Rafferty is considering a return to the North West, and the DW Stadium is one potential location, according to reports from The Sun’s EFL journalist Alan Nixon, which can be found on his Patreon. Rafferty might support the Latics in their pursuit of a better finish after they completed the previous season in 12th place due to a number of point deductions.

The majority of his career has been played in League One and the Championship. Prior to joining North End in 2018, he spent seven and a half seasons at Rochdale. Rafferty joined the Lilywhites during the Alex Neil era and made 72 appearances before leaving on a free agent in 2022.
