The student from Middlesbrough was located close to the Rayrigg Wyke section of the lake, according to police searching for him.
Matthew Jordan, a missing student from Middlesbrough, has been located by police.
Just before 4:30 p.m., officers verified that the body discovered in Lake Windermere this morning belonged to the former student at Nunthorpe School.
The Police Marine Unit discovered the 20-year-old’s body in the lake earlier today.
After completing an identification process, Cumbria Police are no longer considering the death to be suspicious.
Matthew’s family are currently being supported by officers.
Detective Inspector Furzana Nazir said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family at this tragic time.
“There was an amazing response in aiding Matthew’s hunt.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone for their support and assistance, including our family, friends, the general public, the local community, and partner agencies.
“We continue to support the family at this very difficult time.”
Earlier today, the Gazette reported how police searching for Matthew had found a body today in Lake Windermere.
The lake has been searched by divers and boat patrols in recent weeks following the Teesside University student’s disappearance on
Police spotted a man’s body in the water at about 10.20am near the Rayrigg Wyke area of the lake, close to the Windermere Steamboats Museum.
It was there that police dogs had last traced the scent of the missing man.
The former Nunthorpe School pupil vanished in Bowness-on-Windermere in the early hours following a night out with friends.
Ever since, large-scale searches of Windermere and the surrounding area have been carried out by police, family, friends and many strangers who have volunteered to help.
Matthew’s parents Bob and Clare Jordan have been in Cumbria since their son, their only child, went missing last month.
They have been distributing leaflets in the town, which is a popular tourist attraction.
Meanwhile many volunteers – some of them boat owners – have been tirelessly continuing the search for Matthew.
Mrs Jordan said previously: “So many people have taken Matthew to their hearts, we can’t thank them enough.
“No matter what the outcome, and even if he isn’t alive, we just need to find him.”
Police have said that the coroner will be informed
