He was the match-winner on Sunday, but Pablo Sarabia should be scoring more goals in the eyes of Wolves legend Andy Thompson.
Gary O’Neil’s team was fortunate to win all three points because they played well in the first half but poorly in the second. Nevertheless, Jose Sa wasn’t given much to do, and United was unable to take advantage of Wolves’ nervousness.
The solitary goal of the match was scored by Pablo Sarabia, who did so with a fantastic header after a cross from Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Wolves signed him because of these kinds of performances, but Thompson believes he should be scoring more goals than he does.
Andy Thompson says Pablo Sarabia should be scoring more goals for Wolves
Sarabia only scored his fourth goal for Wolves in Sheffield United on Sunday after joining the team from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2023.
It was his 36th appearance for the team, which means he scores for Wanderers once every nine games.
Although Thompson, the former full-back, did commend the £4.4 million Spaniard for his technical skill, this rate is likely something that may be improved.
“Of course (he should score more goals), with the ability that he has,” he stated on Matchday Live Extra. No one questions his talent. He has a history of being here. Having played at several elite clubs, he comes to us as a talented player.
“When he first came to Wolves, he found it challenging for whatever reason, most likely due to the league’s fast tempo. Nonetheless, his ability is undeniable. He is able to select that pass. Again, though, he’s probably disappointed with himself for not having greater objectives. Simply put, I believe he is the best at getting the ball behind the defence, making a pass, or running a break.
Thompson is right, but Sarabia is doing well for Wolves
Sarabia could possibly chip in with a few more goals, but Gary O’Neil will not mind one bit if he continues to play like he is doing and Wolves continue to pick up good results.
He may not score too many, but he certainly makes plenty of chances and obviously, his nine assists prove him to be a very good creator. Undoubtedly now, he’s one of Wolves’ most important players.
The main thing is that O’Neil continues to just get a tune out of Sarabia, whether it be in the form of assists or goals.
He is a very good player. Although it took him some time to settle in England, it’s obvious what he stands for.
