Boost for Wolves as England star withdraws from squad

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has been withdrawn from the England squad due to injury.

With an ankle injury, the 26-year-old had to leave the game during the first half of Spurs’ 4-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea on Monday. His club has since confirmed that he will not be able to play in England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia on November 20 and Malta at home on November 17.

The player will continue his recovery at Spurs’ Hotspur Way training facility, where he will be supervised by club medical personnel, the club announced in a statement.

Maddison was part of the initial 25-man roster that England manager Gareth Southgate announced on Thursday.

With a 2-1 victory over Italy at Wembley last month in their final qualifier, England guaranteed their spot at the Euros in Germany this summer.
