Club chairman ruthlessly weighs in on controversial Wolves and Chelsea decision.

Chairman of Peterborough United Darragh MacAnthony feels that as football becomes more modernised, supporters must adjust to new arrangements for holiday fixtures. The club president has contributed to the decision that has resulted in the two teams playing their first Christmas Eve Premier League match in 28 years, despite having no connection to Chelsea or Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The contentious date shift has sparked strong opposition, particularly from the standpoint of visiting Chelsea, as December 24 has been totally disregarded for English football for almost thirty years. Given that many families across the nation celebrate Christmas in varied customary ways, it makes sense that there are no games on Christmas Eve. On Boxing Day, football is then usually appreciated.

While he “absolutely” believes that the choice shouldn’t have been taken in the first place, MacAnthony believes that fans should put their complaints aside and move on. “They will take action if this is what they choose to do. Horses for courses, that is. Like players, fans have been forced to sacrifice time with their families in order to attend a game, MacAnthony remarked on talkSPORT.

I believe that this will become the new standard when more digital football and more TV agreements come in. On Christmas Eve, there will be many games, and on Christmas Day, there could be one as well. In America, NFL games are broadcast. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day are when they are performed.

Thanksgiving consists of eating, drinking, and other activities, but there are three back-to-back games. It is now considered a custom. It’s not a decision; it’s a choice. You have the option to decline. It’s not necessary for you to go watch the game. This is how the world is heading; this is money. The item is this. You have 350 grand players.
