At Wolves, Gary O’Neil won’t have the opportunity to do his business quickly.
According to sources who spoke with Football Insider, Wolves are unlikely to make any summer additions before the beginning of July as they work to comply with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League.
Senior writer Pete O’Rourke disclosed in an interview with the latest episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast that the Molineux club would have most certainly violated those Financial Fair Play regulations had a striker been signed.
Gary O’Neil was open about wanting to sign a striker during the January transfer window, but Financial Fair Play constraints prevented him from making the transfer happen.
Under PSR, Premier League teams are only permitted to lose £105 million over the course of three seasons. Despite last summer’s fire sale, it is thought that the Midlands club is still very close to that cap.
Wolves might be subject to a penalty like to Everton’s 10-point deduction in November 2023 if they are found guilty of a transgression.
Before July 1, which marks the start of a new club fiscal year, O’Neil’s team is not expected to pursue a new striker or any other position.
The accounts for the prior year may contain any player sales made prior to that date.
Football Insider disclosed on Friday, February 9th, that Wolves might need to offload their top player Pedro Neto in order to raise money for their own summer acquisitions.
Though he has had his hands bound since coming to Molineux last year, it is thought that manager O’Neil is still very understanding and patient with the situation (2023).
With 15 games left in the Premier League this season, Wolves is ranked 10th in the standings despite their dire financial circumstances.
Their next game is on Saturday, February 10, against struggling Brentford.
In other news, days after Wolves crowd unrest, Kieran Maguire astonished everyone with a £7 million deal.
