Latest Wolves news as Gary O’Neil shares an injury update in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League trip to Fulham
Santi Bueno, Mario Lemina, and Matt Doherty are all in the running to play against Fulham on Monday (8 p.m. kickoff), according to Wolves boss Gary O’Neil.
Pedro Neto will miss the game and is “weeks” away from making a comeback, according to O’Neil, though the winger’s exact return date is unknown. When Wolves visit Craven Cottage, Nathan Fraser, Craig Dawson, and Joe Hodge are also expected to be absent.
O’Neil stated the following during his pregame news conference on Thursday: “(Santi Bueno) broke his ankle a few days before the Tottenham game, which was a blow since we don’t have a lot of center-backs available, especially when Dawson, Kilman, and Toti wind up playing three.
“He trained with the group the past few days and is back to full fitness. Since he wouldn’t have been able to play in their matches, he decided against going on international duty. He persevered, made progress with the physiotherapists, and became fit again. I don’t see anything wrong with him participating on Monday.”
“Mario rolled his ankle on international duty, but he should be fine. Matt Doherty has a tight hamstring but will be fine.”
When asked about Pedro Neto, O’Neil said: “Pedro won’t make Monday. He’s got a little bit more work to do so he’ll stay with the physios and the fitness staff for a bit longer.
“There’s no exact timeframe, but he won’t be available for Monday. We’re hopeful it’s weeks (until he’s back).
It’s difficult to say because we’ll be guided by his recovery process and will need to undergo testing, check-ups, and scans. He’s mending really quickly, likely faster than they would have liked.
“We’re pleased with the progress he’s made but with the nature of the injury, we need to make sure everything’s ticked off properly before he’s back with the group.”
“Hodge is doing well and back on the grass,” O’Neil continued, “but it comes a bit too quick for him.”
