Gary O’Neil gives verdict on Wolves display after 4-3 loss to Man Utd*

Thursday’s thrilling seven-goal match between Wolves and Manchester United at Molineux ended in a loss.

Even though Wolves fell behind 2-0 in the first half, they were able to tie the score at one point, 3-3, before falling short 4-3 against Manchester United.

This was before Kobbie Mainoo, who has a unique talent that makes it difficult to be upset, scored a winner.

In the end, there are some genuine advantages to be gained from the match at Molineux, even though Gary O’Neil will never be happy to lose.

During his post-game interview, he acknowledged this.

After the game, O’Neil gave his assessment of the exciting match to TNT Sports.

“What they produced made me proud.” Quality, unity, and effort. Lots and lots of stuff. A little let down by parts of it.

The first part strayed from our goals and didn’t follow through. In the second half, we really excelled and dominated. Really just a few details.

“That’s not how we defend from a throw-in; the corner goal was disappointing, and then we gave up from the throw-in at the end.”

“We just need to keep trying to get better and we don’t have much time to get back up for the next one. We look really good at times.”

Positives can be drawn from the fact that the performance in the first half was essentially unrecognisable from the second.

The poor performance in the first forty-five minutes should be seen as a one-time anomaly rather than an accurate indicator of Wolves’ development.

Rather, the second half demonstrated how close O’Neil’s team is to teams like United and, thus, a potential European position.

It’s easy to accept a hard-fought defeat, but Wolves must be motivated to win this weekend.
