According to Gary O’Neil, Wolves attempted to sign Armando Broja, a striker for Chelsea, on the deadline day but Fulham outbid them.
In the January transfer window, a striker was Gary O’Neil’s primary priority. However, despite their best efforts, Wolves finish the month with fewer attacking options than when they began.
Once Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva were allowed to go on loan, the pressure to strengthen that position intensified.
However, their limited budget made it impossible for them to bring in any players who would truly benefit the team, so Wanderers were forced to make do with just one addition when Noha Lemina left PSG.
Fortunately, Wolves are in a better situation than they were a year ago because O’Neil’s brand of play, which has been firmly established at Molineux, has eliminated their well-documented scoring troubles.
This was evident again in the loss against Manchester United, as Wolves came dangerously close to pulling off a memorable comeback with three goals, but Kobbie Mainoo’s 97th-minute winner broke their hearts.
Following the game, O’Neil acknowledged that their attempt to acquire a new striker was dashed by the distraction of their matchup with Manchester United.
