He joined Spurs for £90m instead*

Lucas Bergvall, a teenage Swedish star, reportedly made a last-ditch bid to sign with Wolves before deciding to sign with Tottenham Hotspur.

Wolves made just one acquisition in the end during the quiet January transfer window.

Wolves signed Noha Lemina on a loan from Paris Saint-Germain, with the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Last month, the club continued to have to exercise extreme caution when it came to expenditure.

Although the club made a lot of sales last summer in order to balance its books and avoid breaking the Profitability and Sustainability criteria, last month’s events raised more concerns.

However, it is now being asserted that Wolves made an attempt to sign the gifted young player Bergvall in spite of their budgetary constraints.

Wolves only signed one player, Noha Lemina, but there may have been two, as Fotbol Direkt reported Wanderers were prepared to make an offer of between £10 and £11 million.

In actuality, this was a higher upfront offer than Tottenham, the team he eventually joined, made.

Bergvall was reportedly “flattered,” but Wolves’ approach came too late because the midfielder had already committed to Tottenham.

The player told Spurs he would sign with them and told Wolves and Aston Villa, who also made a late move, that he could not possible change his mind.

Ultimately, Spurs paid an initial £9 million to acquire Bergvall. The north Londoners moved quickly because, according to Fabrizio Romano, the midfielder was actually extremely close to signing with Barcelona and had even gone there to clinch a deal before Spurs made a late call.

This is a really intriguing assertion, considering that it was well known that Wolves had no money in January.

Maybe Wolves offered to buy the player in the summer after the player was on loan for a while. Under the new FFP cycle, Wolves will have more summertime spending flexibility.

Bergvall, nevertheless, is coming to English football and we’ll soon learn if Wolves will regret not expressing their obvious desire sooner. Bergvall will stay with his club Djurgarden until the conclusion of the season.

Bergvall is a highly skilled player by all accounts, therefore it’s possible that Spurs will benefit a lot from Wolves’ defeat.
