Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil says defender Jonny Otto is unavailable for Tuesday’s Premier League match against Burnley after a “training ground incident”
Since joining Wolves’ squad late in their 2-1 victory over Manchester City in September, Jonny has not appeared on the pitch.
He was left off of the squad for the match against Arsenal on Saturday.
“There was a training ground incident last week that’s being dealt with by the club,” O’Neil stated.
“Tomorrow, Johnny won’t be in the team. When and if he returns, we’ll notify everyone.
He won’t be available for the upcoming games at this time. Since the club is handling things, I’d prefer not to discuss specifics in public.”
In the summer of 2018, Jonny went on loan from Atletico Madrid to Wolves, and in January 2019, he inked a permanent contract.
With a contract that runs through 2025, the 29-year-old has only played in three games thus far this season—two in the Carabao Cup and one in the Premier League.
Following their loss at Fulham on Monday, Wolves lost 2-1 on Saturday at Emirates Stadium, dropping them to 13th in the standings with an eight-point lead over the bottom three.
When asked if “incidents” on the training pitch are beneficial to a team’s spirit and tenacity, O’Neil responded, “They can be beneficial, but those ones are usually not addressed.” Anything over that is handled by the club and me.
“We’re putting a lot of effort into changing the club’s course. The Jonny incident has been addressed and will be addressed going forward. My whole attention is on Burnley tomorrow.
