Striker set for medical after Wolves strike £25m deal

Wolves are closing in on the signing of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen and a key agreement in the deal has now emerged.

Wolves supporters have been dealt a rare feeling of excitement during the 2024 transfer window.

Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle have signed contracts with the Wanderers, and wonderkid Pedro Lima is just one medical exam away from completing his transfer to Molineux.

But signing a new striker was Gary O’Neil’s main goal this summer, and it looks like they may have succeeded in acquiring their top target.

Wolves were reportedly in advanced talks to sign Celta Vigo’s talented shooter Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has been compared to Manchester City’s prolific scorer Erling Haaland, on Thursday.

Since then, they have made progress in their chase of the 24-year-old, and Strand Larsen’s signing is rumoured to be imminent.

The key agreement in the deal to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen

Daily Telegraph journalist John Percy has revealed that Strand Larsen’s move to Wolverhampton will be on an initial loan with the option to make it permanent for €27m (£22.8m).

According to Percy, the striker’s medical will take place on Monday, and a deal on the player’s number of appearances will determine whether or not the striker can be signed.

Barring any last-minute glitches, Strand Larsen looks to be the gold-colored centre forward O’Neil has been waiting for when he gets here at the beginning of next week.

Due to injuries to Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan, O’Neil struggled to find a natural centre forward for the team last season and was forced to start academy players Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome, who weren’t prepared for Premier League play.

In contrast, Strand-Larsen most certainly is.

Why the Jorgen Strand Larsen deal is smart from Wolves

In the past, Wolves has been guilty of spending a large sum of money on players, such Goncalo Guedes and Fabio Silva, who have not yet shown themselves in the premier league.

These are only two of the several transactions that have burned a hole in Fosun’s budget and made the hiring team reevaluate their approach.

Wolves no longer jump into agreements without carefully weighing the advantages and disadvantages. Their choice to sign Strand Larsen to a loan with a buyout option serves as evidence of this.

Although the gifted Norwegian scored 13 goals in La Liga the previous season, O’Neil has the option to send him back to Spain if he doesn’t succeed in the Premier League.

Naturally, that is assuming they don’t make him subject to his contract’s presence provision.

However, if he does indeed live up to the Haaland comparison and dominate England’s top division, then paying £22.8 million to sign him permanently would be a steal.

With his explosive pace and terrific power, Strand Larsen appears like an intriguing striker who would be a perfect fit in the Premier League.
