The departure of Pedro Neto might free up transfer funds for Wolves manager Gary O’Neil.
Football Insider has learned from sources that Wolves might need to sell star player Pedro Neto this summer in order to raise money for acquisitions of their own.
Senior journalist Pete O’Rourke said in an interview with the latest episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast that the Molineux team could have to let go of one or two elite players if they want to make off-season purchases.
Neto is thought to draw the greatest attention after making an impressive comeback from injury during the 2023–24 campaign.
Premier League and European teams are keeping an eye on the Portugal international.
Throughout his 17 appearances this season across all competitions, Neto has three goals and ten assists.
Many other Premier League clubs are in a similar situation to Wolves, who are eager to keep him at Molineux but will need to sell in order to make a large summer acquisition.
Last week on February 3, Football Insider disclosed that the Midlands club had discussions about signings for both Armando Broja and Yuri Alberto in January, but were unable to complete the transactions because of financial constraints.
Since moving to Molineux last year (2023), Gary O’Neil has been unable to act, but he is still quite understanding and patient with the situation.
In the summer of 2023, Wolves narrowly escaped losing points after offloading players including Nathan Collins, Matheus Nunes, and Ruben Neves; some of those transactions resulted in Julen Lopetegui’s departure from the team.
Football Insider reported last month (January 23) that following Joao Gomes’ spectacular Premier League debut, the Midlands club is getting ready to consider offers for the player.
O’Neil’s team is now 13 points clear of the relegation zone and is ranked 10th in the premier league.
In other news, days after Wolves crowd unrest, Kieran Maguire astonished everyone with a £7 million deal.
