Wolves face deadline day disappointment’

Wolves were unsuccessful in their rumoured pursuit of Vitoria Guimares striker Jota Silva, according to reports in Portugal.

It was well documented that Gary O’Neil has been on the hunt for a striker but they have been limited as to what they can do in the market because of Financial Fair Play restrictions. News coming out of Portuguese paper O Jogo claims that Silva was an option.

Wolves along with five other teams had been interested but none of them could persuade Guimares to part ways with the 24-year-old striker. Serie A giants Milan along with Nantes, Villarreal, Nice and Toulouse had been interested with some ‘concrete offers’ being made whilst others made approaches and some that just held an interest but did not act on it.

Silva has nine goals and six assists for Guimares in the top flight of Portuguese football, and Guimares have done their best to keep him for the rest of the season. It has been suggested that a summer move could be possible because his current deal runs out in 2025 and so he would be entering the final year of his contract which could mean that Vitoria could consider cashing in on him.

Although a number of strikers have been mentioned as potential additions to Molineux, Wolves has not been able to complete a deal for any of them. Wolves and Fulham are interested in Armando Broja, but the £5 million loan fee is deterring them both. Chelsea is willing to loan away Broja. The Blues were eager to add an obligation-to-buy in the deal, so Wolves’ attempt to sign Broja this week was fruitless.

Danny Ings, a striker for West Ham, has also been mentioned as a potential target, but it doesn’t appear probable that he will leave the London Stadium. The first loan-to-buy offer from Eintracht Frankfurt to PSG has been boosted to €18 million, and PSG forward Hugo Ekitike is another.
