Wolves missed out on an absolute gem with £38m target

Wolves took on West Ham United and were easily beaten at the London Stadium – and it was quite the performance from Mohammed Kudus.

Gary O’Neil’s side were well beaten by the Hammers, who took advantage of some very poor defending from the visitors down in the capital.

Wanderers switched to a back four, which was an odd move given that Wolves didn’t exactly have the best players for that configuration.

West Ham has a formidable offensive line, and Mohammed Kudus had a great time playing against Toti Gomes on Sunday.

The Ghanaian international was a real handful, and Toti, who is typically a dependable player for Wolves, was completely unprepared to handle his quickness, cunning, and movement.

In the first half, Kudus scored twice in ten minutes, and as Toti looked to break past him down the wing, he was shown a yellow card.

Even though he was more subdued in the second half, he still had a menacing appearance, and it was hard to look at him and not be reminded of those transfer rumours to Wolves from the previous season.

Even though Toti Gomes was playing a position he doesn’t typically play these days, Kudus looked like a true class act against Wolves.

Being a left-back in a four was probably asking for a little trouble for the Portuguese defender, who is more comfortable playing on the left of a three.

Toti was eventually replaced off after 70 minutes, a clear indication that Kudus had lost the match. Kudus showed no mercy to Toti.

Kudus had more than one Sunday like this.

After arriving at West Ham from Ajax in the summer for an alleged £38 million, he has proven to be one of the team’s best acquisitions thus far.

With five of his goals coming in the Premier League, the 23-year-old has already made 21 appearances for the Irons and scored eight goals. His first finish on Sunday was described as “sublime” by Sky Sports pundit Daniel Sturridge, and it appears that West Ham may have a genuine talent on their hands.

Given that Kudus was reportedly linked to a move to Molineux last year, there may have been some jealous Wolves officials observing on Sunday.

Football Ghana purportedly stated that Kudus was a player highly regarded by Wolves and that the team would begin negotiations regarding a possible transfer. At this time, Kudus was strangely not receiving many minutes against the Dutch powerhouses.

Kudus’s stock shot up after he performed brilliantly for Ghana at the World Cup. He would remain at Ajax until the end of the campaign, as Wolves battled to balance the books in the summer, only to be defeated by West Ham.

Perhaps signing Kudus would have been a challenge for Wolves from the start. It is unfortunate that Wolves officials were unaware of him prior to his significant rise in value and his start to shine.
