Wolves will surely regret not signing ‘incredible’ defender

Wolves could have landed an ‘incredible’ Max Kilman upgrade in 2021 and they’ve been made to regret not signing him.

From Ivan Toney to Enzo Fernandez, Wolves have made a lot of transfer mistakes in the past, leaving the Old Gold with grief in the window.
Supporters are accustomed to this practice, whether it involves passing on a player or allowing a competitor to steal them.

Bruno Lage, a Portuguese strategist, had the opportunity to add one of Europe’s top centre backs to his roster when he came at Molineux in 2021.

Wolves could have signed Sven Botman in 2021

Wolves supposedly submitted a £25 million bid for Sven Botman, who was playing for Lille in Ligue 1 at the time, on transfer deadline day in 2021.

The Wanderers became interested in the Dutchman as they sought to strengthen their defensive lineup.

The French powerhouses quickly rejected that offer, valuing Botman at £35 million. The gifted defender had stated his wish to play for the Premier League team.

“Sometimes opportunities come along you might want to go for,” he stated in a statement following the close of the transfer window. Although I’m not in a rush, I was willing to move.

Newcastle ended up triggering the asking price for Botman in the following summer as Wolves were left to regret their decision to not pay the extra £10 million.

Sven Botman would have been a huge upgrade on Max Kilman

Being one of the most promising centre backs in Europe, Botman gained notoriety. At St James Park, the 24-year-old has continued to reach his potential and is an important member of Eddie Howe’s defence.

Although injuries have plagued his second season at the club, he still managed to make 17 appearances in the top division. In his debut season at the club, he played 36 times in the Premier League, helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League.

While Jamie Redknapp previously claimed the Dutchman may become the greatest Premier League center-back of all time, the fact that he is now recovering from an ACL injury shouldn’t take away from the reality that he would have been a significant improvement over Max Kilman.

Botman is a technically excellent and aerially dominant ball-playing defender, rated “incredible” by talent scout Antonio Mango. His defensive and passing numbers are far superior than Kilman’s.
