Worcester City fans react as new ground plans make progress

FANS of Worcester City feel hopeful after significant progress has been made on plans to develop the club off the pitch.

A full planning application for the mooted Worcestershire Community Sports Park, set to be the club’s first permanent home since 2013, will be submitted later in the year.

This latest development was confirmed by the club’s owner Simon Lancaster in an end-of-season statement to fans.

The new sports zone would connect Fernhill Heath and Hindlip.

The team presently plays its home games at Claines Lane after spending over ten years away from the city.

Lancaster stated that, in the long run, he wanted City to own their home field for the first time since they moved from St George’s Lane eleven years prior.

The club had to play in Bromsgrove and Kidderminster for a while in the following years, and in 2017 they were relegated three times because of their financial difficulties.

In February, the Worcestershire Community Sports Park’s initial details were made public.

Lancaster continued by saying that he had consulted with all pertinent parties over the past three months, including a public consultation.

In preparation for the submission of the planning bid, the plans are now being finalized and changed.

Chris Cornes’s City just had their best season in a generation, winning the Premier Division of the Hellenic League and earning promotion.

They also won the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup, advanced to the Marsh Challenge Cup final, and were one game away from Wembley in the FA Vase.


Social media was used by City supporters to express their joy about the club’s current status one year after Simon Lancaster assumed leadership.

While fellow supporter Stojan Vasijevic stated that he felt supporters now had a football club and optimism, Nigel Upson indicated he thought the club was in good hands.
