Major road closure in Worksop after serious two car collision as rescue team battle to save victims

According to Nottinghamshire Police, there will be a road closure in both directions for the “foreseeable future” between the Manton Wood Business Park and the A1 roundabout.

According to a tweet from Highways England, the A57 cannot access the A1 or vice versa.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Inspector Andy Rooke posted on Facebook, saying: “We are currently in attendance with emergency services colleagues and are working to both manage the flow of traffic at the scene and investigate what has happened.” It is recommended that drivers stay away from the area for the next few hours.

As we have more, we’ll update this.

Witnesses on the A57 near Worksop Road saw a police car being towed away after the collision.

The road was ‘completely blocked’ by lorries, forcing traffic to be rerouted, they added.

“Police were called at 12.39pm to the A57 after a report of a crash between a van and a cyclist,” a Notts police spokesperson stated.

“An air ambulance has transported a man to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

“Until the road has been cleared, the A57 from the A1 roundabout to Sandy Lane roundabout will remain closed.”
