A woman injured in an accident on the A57 near Rotherham, according to emergency services, is battling for her life in a hospital.
The woman, who was driving a Toyota Corolla between the Todwick roundabout and Mill Lane, sustained potentially fatal injuries in a head-on collision, according to a statement from South Yorkshire Police.
Following the Thursday morning incident, police are currently requesting witnesses.
According to officers, no one has been taken into custody in relation to the incident as of this morning, and the woman is still in critical condition at the hospital.
“We were called to the A57 at 8:47 (Thursday, September 26) following reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles,” the statement reads.
According to reports, a black Ford Transit van travelling in the opposite direction collided with a grey Toyota Corolla that was travelling along the A57 towards Anston.
“The collision is said to have occurred close to the garden centre, between Mill Lane and the Todwick roundabout.
The 41-year-old man who was operating the Ford Transit van was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and subsequently released from custody.
“The 45-year-old female driver of the Toyota was also transported to the hospital, where she is being treated for injuries that are currently considered life-threatening.”
According to the officers, they are now looking to speak with anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have dashcam footage that is relevant.
