On transfer deadline day, Wrexham, the League Two promotion-chasing team, signed two former Luton players. Luke Bolton, a defender, and Jack Marriott, a striker, arrived this afternoon.
After joining the Hatters in May 2015 from Ipswich Town, Marriott, 29, played for two years and scored 28 goals in 91 games before moving to Peterborough United in June 2017 for an unknown sum. After spending a year on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, the forward moved to Derby County and returned to the Posh in 2021. He was travelling north in January 2023, with League One Fleetwood Town being his destination. He scored 13 goals in 48 games before being signed to an 18-month contract by the Red Dragons today for an undisclosed sum.
He remarked, “I’m really happy to be here and happy to get the deal over the line,” in an interview with the team’s official website. I was very interested in joining the club because of their performances and team dynamic, and I’m thrilled to be here. The club’s direction is something I want to be a part of.
Bolton, 24, a graduate of Manchester City’s academy, played 28 games while on loan at Luton during the 2019–20 season under former manager Graeme Jones after the Hatters had made it back to the Championship. The England U20 international previously played for Wycombe Wanderers and Dundee United before joining League Two team Salford City in the summer of 2021.
He signed a contract with the STōK Cae Ras until the summer of 2026, joining two other former Hatters in Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer. He played 92 games with the Ammies, scoring six goals. Coach Phil Parkinson continued, saying, “Luke is a great addition to the team. He will be a player that gives the squad a lot of pace and energy.
