Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has penned a hilarious sick note for one supporter desperate to watch the club’s FA Cup fourth-round clash with Blackburn Rovers.
On Monday night, the League Two team will visit Ewood Park in an attempt to finish the giant-killing.
Two divisions ahead of the Red Dragons in the Championship ranks, Rovers sit in 18th place.
Wrexham needs two victories to advance to the FA Cup quarterfinals.
They haven’t accomplished this since 1997, so it would add to McElhenney and fellow co-owner Ryan Reynolds’ resumes.
These days, both guys are deeply embedded in the community, and McElhenney made the decision to support a fan who is determined to watch the game no matter what.
@WrexhamCanada on X tweeted: “Hey @VancityReynolds, @RMcElhenney and @Wrexham_AFC, can you provide me with a sick note for work so I can watch the match on Monday?”
McElhenney paid attention and went above and beyond. The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ actor posted a ‘Official Sick Note’ note to his 1.1 million followers.
He said: “To whom it may concern, @WrexhamCanada is hereby excused from work on Monday, January 29, 2024.
“They have a weird cough or something. If that’s not enough of an excuse, let’s go with the flu.
“Wouldn’t you hate to catch it if they showed up to work in that condition? They are cleared to come back on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
“Oh, I think that happens to be the day after the Wrexham match. Weird timing. Best wishes, Dr. McElhenney.”
League Two leaders Stockport County lead Wrexham by five points at the moment.
It is not impossible for Wrexham to get promoted twice in a row, and manager Phil Parkinson thinks the team may eventually play in the Premier League.
