Newport County defender Adam Lewis is hoping his side can continue to build momentum as Wrexham make the trip to Rodney Parade tomorrow afternoon (3pm).
After back-to-back victories against Doncaster Rovers and Eastleigh in the space of a week, the Exiles have now faced just one defeat in their last ten league and cup outings.
And with the lucrative tie of 12-time FA Cup winners Manchester United to follow tomorrow’s all-welsh encounter with the Red Dragons, Lewis says it’s a period in the season that he and his teammates are certainly relishing.
“It’s a big game isn’t it [Wrexham],” said the Liverpool loanee.
“You saw what it was like a few weeks ago with all the build-up and the atmosphere on the day. I was a bit unlucky with the first game as I just missed out with an injury but fortunately, I still had the opportunity to travel up and get a feel for it all.
“It’s two massive games coming up, and despite Manchester United coming to town, we’ve got to see Wrexham as just on par with that too. The history between both clubs and with some people labelling it as a ‘Welsh derby’, it’s all to play for tomorrow.
“It’s perfect timing really having the opportunity to play two games against two big teams in the space of a week. We’ve got the temporary stand-in now as well which will add to a great atmosphere, and hopefully, it can be a real positive two games for us.
“It’s of course hard to ignore next week with how big of a game it is, but first we’ve got to focus on Wrexham tomorrow.
“We’ve got to take one game at a time and not get ahead of ourselves. We’ve got really good players in the team, we’ve got near enough now everyone back fit, and when everyone is available we know we can be a very strong outfit.”
After battling with a long injury for the majority of the campaign so far, Lewis has only registered two starts for the Exiles since August, the first coming in last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Doncaster at the Eco-Power Stadium and our recent 3-1 victory over Eastleigh.
But with the fixtures coming thick and fast over the coming weeks, the defender has been pleased to be back out on the pitch and contributing to the team.
“It’s been a frustrating time for me,” added Lewis
“The manager has put his trust in me by playing me in the last few games. I’ve only been allowed to play 45 minutes in the last two games as it’s just been a way of easing myself back in.
“It’s been hard to not have been playing over the last few months but to be back now is a great feeling.”
